Each units provide opportunities for content exploration and skill-building that are aligned with the NYCDOE Kindergarten Social Studies, Science Scope, and Sequence. Our Scholars are engaged in investigation, language and problem-solving skills through the institution of the classroom environment, interactions with peers, use of books and other texts, integration of new vocabulary, use of purposeful play, and family engagement practices.
Student lessons and activities are supported with the state Pre-K Learning Standards and Guiding Principles, known as the Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core (PKFCC) where children work towards “increasing awareness and competence”. The Unit of Study supports student learning in all domains: Approaches to Learning, Social and Emotional development, Language and communication, Cognition, Perceptual, Motor, and Physical Development using developmentally appropriate practice throughout the course of the ten-month program based on each unit.Ĭhildren learning is supported in their own experiences that allows them to expand their understanding of the people and world around them with increasing complexity.
